Nature-based Solutions are part and parcel of our daily lives.

The PCP4NbS program seeks to contribute to strengthening climate resilience of communities, particularly rural and indigenous women, while ensuring co-benefits from, and for, natural resources and healthy ecosystems.

about the program

What are Nature-based Solutions?

Nature-based Solutions or NbS are widely recognized as cost-effective actions that protect, restore, and sustainably manage natural and modified ecosystems to address societal challenges – such as climate change, food and water security, and disaster risk reduction.

Together, we CAN!

Grounded in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Global Standard for NbS, the program targets these three objectives.

Conserve and restore our biodiversity

Adapt to our changing climate

Nurture and empower women to lead and participate

priority areas

Six priority areas with rich biodiversity and high climate vulnerability

Site-based Grants will support gender-responsive and community-based NbS projects to help reduce vulnerability and increase resilience to climate change impacts. These projects will be implemented in priority program areas, particularly in biodiverse watersheds.

Calamianes

Batanes

Batanes is the northernmost island province in the Philippines, which lies along the typhoon belt in the Pacific. The entire province is the Ancestral Domain of the Ivatan indigenous cultural community, a Protected Area, and an identified key biodiversity area, Batanes Islands Protected Landscape and Seascape.

Camarines Sur

In Camarines Sur, the Program supports nature-based solutions (NbS) in the Buang River Watershed and Delehi River Watershed, which covers 14 barangays in the municipality of Siruma. More than 50% of the mangrove species found in the Philippines can be found in the municipality of Siruma.

Negros Occidental

Negros Occidental is part of the Negros-Panay faunal region in Central Philippines, a conservation priority due its high concentration of endemic species and the severity of threats it faces, including human activities degrading the environment, and climate change impacts affecting the flora, fauna, women, and communities.

Negros Oriental

Negros Oriental is a globally significant biodiversity hotspot, boasting a remarkable array of endemic species found nowhere else. However, these natural treasures face pressing threats from human-induced habitat degradation and the far-reaching effects of climate change, which impact the region’s plants, animals, women, and local communities

Davao

Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental covers the Sumlog-Cuabo River Watershed, which spans over 67,000 hectares across four municipalities/cities in Davao Oriental,, and two municipalities in Davao de Oro. This includes over 30,000 hectares of Protected Areas (PAs) and Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs).

Assessing Baseline Learning Needs in PCP4NbS Program Areas

In partnership with the University of Guelph in Canada and Bayi, Inc., Learning Needs Assessment (LNA) Workshops were conducted with civil society and peoples organizations (including women and young women) in the first three priority program areas: Negros Occidental, Batanes, and Camarines Sur. The LNA Workshop offered safe and engaging spaces to identify learning gaps and capacity development needs, as baseline for the program’s grantmaking capacity development, knowledge management, and advocacy activities. LNAs in the rest of the Program areas will be completed in 2025.
